  • “All Atlanta Public School Students are Safe and Welcome” GALEO Board Member and APS Board Member, Jason Esteves: ‘Commitment to Diversity is Bedrock Value’.  As recent events across America have stirred up worry and alarm among certain populations in Atlanta, including immigrant families, the Atlanta Board of Education last week unanimously passed a resolution formerly expressing to every public school student that they are safe and welcome from threat, harm or intimidation.

  • J. Gonzalez, GALEO, met with Alexander Hernandez, candidate for the special election in the Congressional District 6, to discuss issues important to Latino voters in the CD6. GALEO is open to meet with any candidates for office to discuss issues only.

  • GALEO Meeting with Christine Reeves Strigaro, new Executive Director for the The Sapelo Foundation.

  • GALEO participated in voter registration at a naturalization ceremony at Federal court building in Tucker and the one in Downtown.
  • J. Gonzalez met with Ceasar Mitchell, City of Atlanta City Council President and candidate for Mayor for the City of Atlanta to discuss issues for Latino voters. GALEO is open to meet with any candidates for office to discuss issues only.

  • GALEO and New Americans Campaign Atlanta (NAC) partners hosted a large Citizenship Drive at Georgia Gwinnett College.
  • GALEO had canvassers out at Plaza Fiesta to do a Voter Registration Drive.

  • The Georgia State University GALEO Institute for Leadership program attended a field trip at the Georgia State Capitol.

February 13:

  • Maria Palacios, GALEO Staff, participated in Moral Monday with the NAACP and spoke at an informational session with Perimeter College.

May 20:

  • GALEO attends a school supply drive at Eastbrook Middle School to talk about the BRIDGE Act and the importance of voting.
  • J. Gonzalez, GALEO, participated in the AIDS Vaccine 200 mile ride over two days to raise funds to benefit the Emory Vaccine Center. He and his husband raised a combined total of over $24,000 for the event and were both in the top 3 fundraisers.  In total for two years, Jerry & his husband had raised $59,000.00 for AIDS vaccine research.

  • GALEO attended the graduation ceremony for Georgia Gwinnett College where our Fall Interns, Camilo & Mario, graduated. In addition, GALEO Institute for Leadership alumni, Mark Guevarra, provided graduation remarks.  Many other GIL alumni also graduated.

December 16: 

  • J. Gonzalez, GALEO, participated in “Calls and Sandwiches for the Dream Act” at the Havana Sandwich Shop on Buford Highway in Atlanta.

December 18: 

  • J. Gonzalez, GALEO, met with Sara Henderson, Common Cause Georgia.

December 19: 

  • GALEO hosted a phone banking session to promote passage of the #DREAMAct.

December 21: 

  • GALEO & FWD.us hosted a phone banking session to promote passage of the #DREAMAct.

December 29: 

  • GALEO met with law enforcement officials to discuss Latino issues.
