Lines are getting long at the ATL airport! 2019 Trump Shut Down & NO Border Wall!

January 15, 2019

We continue with no agreement to re-open the federal government.  Some federal workers are working without pay and some are indefinitely furloughed as the #TrumpShutDown continues.
Despite the fact that he had two years of Republican controlled Congress that did not fund his pet project of the border wall, he now insists it is a “crisis”.  Despite the fact that the president has repeatedly promised that Mexico would pay for the wall, he now want us to pay for the wall.  Despite the fact that national security experts say the wall will not solve our immigration problems, the president insists on demanding funding for it.  He has clearly not demonstrated the capacity for leadership. Recent polling indicates that the President is losing this argument and is blamed for the #TrumpShutDown.

Today, there was an important federal court ruling BLOCKING the Trump Administration on the addition of the citizenship question to the 2020 Census.GALEO, along with many other groups, is part of another federal lawsuit which begins next week on January 22nd in a Maryland federal court.

Community Prayer Vigil to #FreeEduardo
Thursday, Jan. 17, 8:30 a.m., at the Atlanta ICE Court
(180 Ted Turner Drive SW) for a prayer vigil to #FreeEduardo.
On Thursday, Eduardo faces his third immigration hearing in the Atlanta ICE Court that will determine whether he can receive a second bond hearing. We need to come together as a community and raise our voices against Eduardo’s unjust detention. Join us. We will also be presenting a petition to ICE officials asking for his immediate release.
BACKGROUND: On Dec. 27th, 2018, immigrant rights leader Eduardo Samaniego was denied bond after 71 days behind bars. He was promptly moved the following day to Irwin County Detention Facility in Ocilla, Georgia, which is widely recognized as one of the most oppressive detention centers in the nation.  Eduardo is held in complete isolation, where his health and mental wellness is rapidly deteriorating. Like many immigrant activists nationally, Eduardo is being targeted by ICE and his case is now being fast-tracked as a direct result of his work to defend immigrant rights.
Anyone and everyone can help! If you can, before the event, reach out to friends or other folks who RSVP and ask if they can help. Roles needed:
1)   Print posters and bring hand-held candles to share at the event (posterboard or banners with the demand and hashtags #FreeEduardo #LibertadParaEduardo #Not1More #90DaysInDetention)
2)   Use social media to spread the news of the event.

From the AJC.com:  “Some passengers complained of wait times lasting several hours, with lines stretching from security through the atrium and baggage claim most of the morning.
