Maria del Rosario Palacios, Program Coordinator for Leadership Development & Policy

Maria del Rosario Palacios is the current Program Coordinator for Leadership Development & Policy for GALEO. She was born in Mexico and has resided in Gainesville, GA for over twenty years. She graduated Cum Laude from the University of North Georgia with her Bachelor’s in Business Administration in Finance.

Maria del Rosario has worked in various leadership roles during her undergraduate years, as a student, a community member, and as a professional. She co-founded Diplomats for Diversity while at the University of North Georgia and served in leadership roles in debate, entrepreneurship, student government, and diversity student organizations. Before completion of her degree she also served as the Coordinator for Multicultural Student Affairs and Latino Success at UNG.

Maria’s strongest areas of developmental interest are in leadership, diversity, personal finance, and public speaking. Maria has worked in leadership roles in professional settings in the food industry, personal finance, her community, and higher education. By the age of 21 she served in leadership roles in Quality Assurance/Food Safety at Smithfield Packing Co. and in personal federal taxation/accounting. She assisted five different small businesses with bookeeping/accounting until 2014 and has worked in personal federal taxation for the last eight years. While at Smithfield in 2010, Maria del Rosario Palacios underwent her first formal and work training in leadership. Maria has most recently (summer 2016) assisted with fundraising and organizing an international debate competition for UNG students to Spain. She has also attended and led many leadership initiatives and is frequently asked to present on diversity, leadership, and entrepreneurship topics.

When not working, studying, or participating in her community, Maria del Rosario spends time with her family and three young children named Sofia, Solomon, and Serenity.
