Stephania Ortez is an upcoming Junior at the University of North Georgia. She is currently majoring in political science with a minor in communication. She is the proud daughter of two Honduran immigrants. She was born in Fairfaxs, Virginia and moved to Georgia in 2012.
Her passion for civil engagement and political change has invoked her desire to work with the community. Her passion grew from seeing the lack of bridges between the latino community and the government. Her strong belief in representation of marginalized groups in politicas lead her to work with GALEO as a canvasser in the 2018 midterm election. The work she did during her time canvassing with GALEO pushed her to intern with GALEO this summer.
Stephania is the vice-president of the University of North Georgia Debate Team. She has been competitively debating since her first year and was able to compete in Chile at the World Spanish Debate Championship where her partner and her advanced to finals. She was able to represent the University of North Georgia at World University Debate Championship this year. She loves debate since it provides her with a platform.
She hopes to use her education and experience to work with communities to increase civic engagement and bring impactful representation to the United State’s political environment.
