GALEO Celebrates Georgia's Young Writers at the Leyendas Essay Awards Ceremony!

(Atlanta, Georgia) – Last week, GALEO announced the winners of the 2025 Leyendas Essay Contest. The organization celebrates all the submissions that uplifted the work of farmworkers and social justice activists of the Latinx communities and other marginalized communities.

The winners of this year’s essay contest are:

Adult Category:

1st Place: Juan Rayo, Atlanta, GA

2nd Place: Linda Rocio Ambrocio, Bainbridge, GA

High School Category:

1st Place: Betzayda Domingo Garcia, Doraville, GA

2nd Place: Hannah Lang, Loganville, GA

3rd Place: Adelaide Banks

3rd Place: Wiley Lum

English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Category:

1st Place: Alexander Maldonado, Gainesville, GA

2nd Place: Cindy Arroyo, Gainesville, GA

3rd Place: Leonel Galvan, Gainesville, GA

The winners will be commemorated at a free event at noon on Friday, April 11, 2025, at the Georgia State Capitol’s Room 216, located at Capitol Sq SW, Atlanta, GA 30334. We invite the community to listen to the winning essays and celebrate the winners at our Essays Readings event. We would to have you there!

We are also honored to have Maria del Rosario Palacios, Executive Director of Common Cause Georgia, as our keynote speaker. A multilingual immigrant community organizer, published author, and tech strategist, Palacios brings over 16 years of expertise in public policy and a distinguished track record as a powerful public speaker.
