The mission of the GALEO Leadership Council (GLC) is to support GALEO's mission of increased civic engagement and leadership development of the Latino community.

How to Become a GLC Member:
Eligible individuals should send an email to Laura Murvartian at Laura_Murvartian@bellsouth.net expressing an interest to join.
An invitation to join the GALEO Leadership Council Groupsite will then be sent. Please accept the invitation to join the site and you will soon start receiving emails from the GLC.
GLC Committees:
We ask that all GLC members select a committee for which to volunteer.
There are six committees from which to choose. Descriptions of the committees and contact information are listed below.
Please contact the committee chair directly to express your interest in that particular committee.
GLC Meetings and Conference Calls
GLC in-person meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month at the Univision Offices.
In-person meetings: 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Location: Univision Offices, 3350 Peachtree Rd NE #1250, Atlanta, GA, 30326.
Parking Information: Once you pull into the building take the fork to the right (staying right next to the building) and park in the loading dock area directly behind the building. There is no need to go through the Visitor parking gate/arm, but instead fork right once you pull into the driveway. You can park in the Blue Cross/Blue Shield parking spots. From there you just walk into the building and come to the 12th floor. If you have any issues with parking or getting into the building, please call me (770-841-9672)
2011/2012 GLC Committees
Advocacy
Chair: Rochelle Morgan-Verdin, rochellemv21@yahoo.com
Goal: To educate GLC members on the legislative process and promote their increased involvement in GALEO's advocacy efforts. The committee will keep all GLC members informed about legislation that impacts the Latino community and share information about upcoming GALEO events. We will host 2 educational advocacy workshops and various direct action events in the community as well as at the state capitol.
Citizenship Initiative
Chair: Laura Murvartian, Laura_Murvartian@Bellsouth.net
Goal: To increase the number of Latino Citizens in Georgia. There are approximately 200,000 Legal Permanent Residents (LPRs) in Georgia that are qualified to apply for citizenship, but have not yet gone through the application process. We will be working with the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) to host two Citizenship Drives in the next 9 months.
Georgia Latino Vote
Chair: Ivan Shammas, ishammas@hotmail.com
Goal: To increase the number of Latino voters in Georgia. There are approximately 88,000 Latino citizens in Georgia who are not yet registered to vote. We will be present at Latino festivals and events throughout Atlanta for voter registration drives.
Leadership Development
Chair: Genny Castillo, gennycastillo0509@hotmail.com
Goal: To focus on post GIL leadership development and GIL alumni networking events. Cesar Chavez Day - Chair: Vernetta Nuridin
Goal: To educate Georgians about Cesar Chavez and to get congress to establish a Cesar Chavez national holiday. We will hold Cesar Chavez Day at the State Capitol and have an essay-writing contest about Cesar Chavez's legacy.
GALEO Membership
Chair: Kim Matute/Ivan Shammas, ishammas@hotmail.com
Goal: To increase the number of GALEO members through membership drives and GALEO awareness campaigns.
