Spring 2005 Interns

Laura Burns

Laura Burns is a senior at Emory University and will be receiving a bachelor's degree in Spanish this May. She serves on the Executive Board for Miracle Marathon, a fundraiser for Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and she is an active member of her sorority. Laura was born in Dalton, Georgia, where she danced ballet and jazz for 15 years. She enjoys traveling and has studied abroad in Scotland, London, and Spain.

Nicole Faurot

Nicole is a third year undergraduate at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She is studying Spanish, Inter-disciplinary Studies and Economics and hopes to pursue a career in international business. Raised in Boulder, Colorado Nicole grew up playing soccer, swimming and running. She had a lot of contact with the Latino population tutoring high school students, teaching English and learning Spanish in unique ways. Following high school graduation she studied for a summer at the University of Salamanca in Spain and then continued her studies at Emory. At Emory Nicole became involved in a commission that advocates for women, peer counseling, and tutoring local elementary school students. Through the summer of 2004 Nicole worked with the Mexican Consulate and Emory University as lead intern for a Mexican Cultural Immersion Program with local elementary school students. That July she traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina for a six-month study abroad experience. During this time Nicole worked with a human rights organization and completed a research paper on the organization. Nicole looks forward to the opportunities presented through GALEO and is excited to help the community in Georgia.

Aldo Lozano

Aldo Lozano obtained an arts associate degree from Georgia Perimeter College in 2002. He will receive a bachelor's degree from Georgia State University in May 2005. He has been one of the few Hispanics that have served in the Georgia Legislative Internship Program. Last year, Aldo worked as a visiting political science and history professor at Tec de Monterrey (ITESM) Campus Laguna at Torreon, Mexico, where he was born and raised.

Carlos Lares

Carlos T. Lares is a senior at Kennesaw State University. This summer Carlos will be receiving a bachelor's degree from the Political Science & International Affairs department of KSU. Carlos was born in Denver, Colorado and raised in Venezuela, Canada and Europe. Carlos is a Certified program Provider of the Georgia Commission on Interpreters and serves as In-house Interpreter for Superior Court of Fulton County. Carlos enjoys swimming and coffee.
