Jimena Somilleda (she/her/ella) is one of GALEO’s current Fall 2021 interns. As a first-generation Mexican-American student, she has been very persistent in advocating for her community and making an impact to break generational cycles that can change lives.

Jimena is a second-year student at the University of Georgia, pursuing a major in Public Relations and Communication with a minor in Nonprofit Management and Leadership. During her time at UGA, she has been active in advertising efforts for the Hispanic Student Association’s production of Noche Latina: Generaciones and serves as a peer mentor with Latinos Invested in the Students of Tomorrow (LISTo).

Outside of school and work, she serves as the Chapter Communications Coordinator for the Hispanic Organization Promoting Education (HoPe), in which she trains and leads students nationwide in social media presence, content creation, and promotional campaigns. She has had the opportunity to host leadership seminars and attend the HoPe Youth Leadership Summit through this role.

Jimena’s respect and admiration for her community fuel her passion for advocating for as well as influencing her community through leadership, education, and service.
