ATLANTA, GA – Today, the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation published the first round of grants from its new Democracy program sphere. The portfolio of 12 awards totaling almost $10 million includes a varied range of organizations with a strong presence in Georgia and the Southeast aiming to secure that all eligible Americans exercise their right to vote and are actively engaged with their government.
In addition to the environment and youth development, the Blank Family Foundation Board has chosen democracy as one of its three new collective giving areas. This Democracy grant portfolio is the first to be made from the new giving categories. The funds are intended to provide ongoing funding to critical democracy groups during local, state, and federal election cycles, allowing them to remain strong and resilient in the face of the constant struggle for voting rights.
“With organizations like The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation, the vital work of protecting our democracy and marginalized communities’ voices can continue. GALEO is grateful for their support as we provide programs and aid to the Latinx-Hispanic community in Georgia. We will continue to make our state a better place where our rights and voices are valued and protected,” stated Jerry Gonzalez, CEO of GALEO and GALEO Impact Fund.
Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta, the ACLU Foundation, the Black Voters Matter Capacity Building Institute, the Brennan Center for Justice, the Center for Election Innovation & Research, the Common Cause Education Fund, Fair Count, GALEO Latino Community Development Fund, Georgia Alliance for Progress Education Fund, NEO Philanthropy State Infrastructure Fund, New Georgia Project, and ProGeorgia are among the first grantees.
