Awarding of Winners of the Cesar Chavez Essay Contest at the Capitol on Cesar Chavez Day

Today, Galeo recognized the Annual Cesar Chavez Essay contest winners during Cesar Chavez day. This contest aims to increase awareness of farm workers' continual plight and contributions to America. Participants brilliantly highlighted Chavez´s work and contributions to the greater Latino community.

"Take the moment to thank everybody that picked the food that we are going to eat today, the people that packaged and brought it to the stores," Alejandro said.
"Campesinos, farm workers, are like everybody else. They have families, they have dreams, and they have ambitions."

He also talked about his grandfather's legacy and how he aimed his efforts for the farmworkers' children to have the same opportunities that everyone else.

Chavez Day, recognized on March 31, was proclaimed a California state holiday in 2000 and has been a commemorative federal holiday since 2014. The day honors the birth and legacy of Cesar Chavez, an American farmworker, labor leader, civil rights activist, husband, and father of eight.
