Elisa Covarrubias (She/Her/Ella) joined GALEO as Deputy Director in July of 2023. Prior to this, she worked in non-profit social services for over 20 years, with a focus on gender-based violence intervention and prevention, serving as Chief Operating Officer at LiveSafe Resources and then CEO at Men Stopping Violence. Born to a mother of Puerto Rican descent and a Mexican father, she spent her formative years in Miami, Florida, but has called Atlanta home since 2008. Elisa is passionate about human rights and empowering the Latino community.

Elisa currently serves as Board Chair for the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence, as a member of the Emory CHART Steering Committee, and is an active member of the Latinx Alliance. She completed 2 terms with AmeriCorps National Service, one focused on early childhood education and the other on community mental health support. In 2019, she participated in the Georgia Women’s Policy Institute where she worked with her team to champion legislation to improve the systemic response to domestic violence in Georgia. In her spare time, Elisa volunteers in her local community, sings with the Atlanta Women’s Chorus, tends to her native plant garden, and enjoys time with her family and pets.
